The Himalayan Banquet & Celebration of the Buddhist Community

The Himalayan Banquet

On Saturday 19th July the HIMALAYAN BANQUET will take place in the Main Exhibition Hall of Forum North at Whangarei .

FORUM NORTH: will be transformed. Find yourself in the Himalayan mountains, with colorful prayer flags fluttering above your head...

BANQUET: A delicious array of unique dishes from Tibet, Mongolia, Nepal and India, all prepared and cooked for you on the premises by authentic guest chefs from each region. The meal includes three courses and juice. Wine Bar available.

CONCERT: Tibetan singer and flutist Tenzin Choegyal (http://www.tenzinchoegyal.com) will take you on a journey to the mountains of Tibet through his songs. Deep-throat chanter Peter Haeder will mix traditional Tibetan deep-throat chanting with modern technology and rhythm…

DANCE: Dancer Yufen Wang will perform a beautiful Dakini Dance.

FUN: Entertaining games and a raffle will glean your pockets of gold coins and potentially make you win fabulous prizes…

AUCTION: Make a bid on an interesting collection of items: art work, services, paintings, collectables.

THEME: Become a part of it all - dress ‘Himalayan’ and be in to win a prize.

PURPOSE: The Banquet is a fundraiser for Jam Tse Dhargyey Ling,  the Tibetan Buddhist Centre on Parakiore Hill at Kamo.

Tickets for the Himalayan Banquet and Concert are $55 each or $500 for Table of Ten.

CELEBRATION OF THE TIBETAN BUDDHIST COMMUNITY

BOUNTY ROOM : PROGRAM OF EVENTS

9.30 - 9.50am Guided Meditation - setting ones motivation to achieving ultimate good for the day. Led by Venerable Jampa Ani Tsekyi

10.00 - 11.30am A public talk titled: Developing Compassion in Daily Life, by Venerable Geshe Sangey Thinley, the resident Spiritual Teacher of the Centre.
The talk will be followed by a Question and Answer session

12.00 - 12.30pm Introduction to the courses held at the Centre - what you can expect to learn and achieve through taking a course on Meditation, and what the Exploring Buddhism course is all about.

12.45 - 1.15pm Story telling by Ani Tsekyi, our resident nun. The story of Prince Siddhartha, the life of a Buddha. For children and adults alike

1.30 - 2.25pm Panel discussion and practical advice: What do Buddhist principles have to offer us as parents?
From panellists: Barbara O’Sullivan, Kaari Schlebach, Paul Currie and George Skuse

2.30 - 2.55pm Guided Healing Meditation with Shelène Spoek

4.30 - 4.50pm Guided Meditation – Rejoicing and Dedication

 

THE CAFLER SUITES : ACTIVITIES

A hive of activities for those wishing to check out the activities of the Tibetan Buddhist Centre.

Mandala Magic: Tibetan Buddhist monk, Venerable Geshe Jamyang Sherab will create a sand painting of an auspicious symbol.

Children (and adults) can give Sand Painting or Mandala Drawing or playing with a Singing Bowl, a go…

Print your own Prayer Flag and take it home with you…

THE TEAHOUSE CORNER

While enjoying the exhibition of the art work and collectables that will be auctioned during the Banquet, a variety of teas and coffees will be provided by The Teahouse of Kamo.

What to bring (if you can):

a cushion or a chair, a native plant or Rhododendron to put in the Peace Garden,

flower heads/petals to throw in the air when the Stupa is declared officially open,

a plate to share for afternoon tea - biscuits, slices, cake, etc.

Visit of Venerable Geshe Sonam Rinchen to New Zealand, January & February 2008

We are truly delighted to announce that our precious teacher Ven. Geshe Sonam Rinchen from the Tibetan Library, Works and Archives in Dharamsala, India, has agreed to come back to New Zealand to teach at Dharma Centers throughout New Zealand in January and extensively at Jam Tse Dhargyey Ling during the month of February. This is a wonderful event and we are very much looking forward to sharing this very special time with you.
