Closing Ceremony: Sunday 4th Dec – 10.30am
On the 4th of December a dissolution ceremony will take place at the Whangarei Art Museum, the sand will water’s edge of the Town Basin Sculpture Walk. The delicate and fragile sand mandala which is the result of many hours of work will be ‘destroyed’ and poured into the river as an offering to the nagas – water spirits of great wealth who are said to inhabit water. The offering is made with the prayer that the place where the mandala was created and it’s surroundings, as well as all beings who live there may enjoy peace, prosperity and good health.
The dissolution of the mandala is meant to awaken in the mind the understanding of impermanence and non-attachment.
Attendees to either or both ceremonies need to bring cushions and blankets to sit on. During the closing ceremony the community can bring flower-heads to be used as offerings to the nagas.

Tara Puja for removal of all obstacles
Tara (the Liberator) is a Buddha in female form who represents in particular all enlightened beings’ skilful activities.
Contemplating Tara brings quick results in whatever we want and need – the ultimate happiness of enlightenment, (known as the Mother of all Buddhas, she awakens and helps fulfill our potential to attain enlightenment); and also helps bring temporal benefits of this life relating to work, business, family, relationships etc.
Taking part in this practice enables us to develop Tara’s energy within us, which is the energy of our own active compassion and wisdom.
The puja runs for approximately one hour and everyone is most welcome to attend. The puja is recited in both English and Tibetan.
One could also sponsor a Tara Puja to assist with the removal of obstacles or create merit for oneself or someone else. Please contact us at dharmanewzealand(@)gmail.com if you are interested in sponsoring a Puja.
