Tuesday Night, 19th of November is Lhabab Duchen, we will be hold Guru Tsog at the centre at 7pm.
The day commemorating the Buddha’s return to our world after spending three months in Tushita heaven giving teachings to his mother. On Lhabab Duchen, the effects of positive or negative actions are multiplied ten million times. It is part of Tibetan Buddhist tradition to engage in virtuous activities and prayer on this day.
We have made a heart felt request that our resident spiritual teacher: Ven. Geshe Sangey Thinley teach the Lam Rim on Thursday nights and he has kindly agreed.
This is a special opportunity for us to receive teachings from a genuine master of Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy.
Geshe-la will be using the Lam Rim written by Pabongka Rinpoche – Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand. Geshela has emphasised that he will likely move around in the subject areas of the text.
If you have this text please bring it with you. For those who don’t have it, we will have a few copies that can be purchased for cash at the centre. There are also copies at our shop Himalayan Trading Post. If you would like us to hold a copy please email us at dharmanewzealand(at) gmail.com.

Lama Tsongkhapa Day, or Ganden Ngamchoe, is a celebration of the anniversary of Lama Tsongkhapa’s parinirvana. It is celebrated on the 25th day of the 10th month of the Tibetan calendar. This year, Lama Tsongkhapa Day falls on December 21, 2019, and is the 600th anniversary.
Lama Tsongkhapa is the founder of our lineage, the Gelug tradition, in Tibetan Buddhism. He was a renowned scholar, practitioner, meditator, teacher and author. His studies and meditations in all the major schools of Tibetan Buddhism resulted in the founding of the Gelug lineage. Among his major accomplishments is writing the Lamrim, or the Great Treatise on the Path to Enlightenment, a step-by-step guide to the spiritual practices that lead to enlightenment.
To celebrate we will be having a shared dinner at the centre at 6pm followed by Guru Tsog Puja at 7pm
